ENT INSIGHT –2026 (from basics to bedside)
On January 7th 2026 the Department of ENT Government Ramanathapuram Medical College, hosted a dynamic One – Day Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme titled “ENT Insignt (from basics to bedside – an academic initiative designed to empower undergraduates students in Otoorhinolaryngology as they prepare for their university examinations. Held on the serene and academically vibrant campus of Government Ramanathapuram Medical College, the Programme was a rich blend of Clinical excellence, mentorship, and collaborative learning.
The event was spearheaded by a dedicated organizing team comprising
Dr. L. Sivasankari (Organizing Chairperson and Professor & Head ENT),
Dr. T. Ananda Chockalingam (Organizing Secretary), whose meticulous planning ensured the smooth execution of the programme.
The inauguration ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the illumination of knowledge, Present on the dais were Prof. Dr. Amutha Rani MD, (Anaes) DEAN, of GRMCH, Prof. Dr. B. Subitha, MD, (Micro) Vice-Principal, GRMCH, Prof. Dr. S.A.K. Noor Mohamed MD. DM (Nephro) Medical Superintedent GRMCH alongside other dignitaries, In his address, Dr. R. Amutha Rani, MD, expressed her joy at hosting the CME for the first time in ENT GRMCH and extended her best wishes to the attending under graduates encouuaging them to pursue excellence with humility and purpose.
Prof. Dr. L. Sivasankari in her welcome address, emphasized the importance of clinical precision and continual learning in ENT Practice.
Dr. Ananda Chockalingam delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the unwavering support of the GRMCH management and the academic community.
The Programme featured an impressive lineup of guest faculty, including:
- J. Alaguvadivel, MS, DLO, Professor and HOD , ENT, Government Madurai Medical College.
- D. Jude Anselm Shyras, MS, DLO, Professor and HOD, ENT, Government Kanyakumari Medical College.
- D. Subramonia Biju, MS, DLO, Associate Professor, ENT, Government Kanyakumari Medical College.
- D. Vijaya Babu MS, DLO, Associate Professor, ENT Government Sivagangai Medical College.
These experts shared invaluable insights through lectures and hands on evaluations.
A Rich Clinical Experience:
One Day was devoted to comprehensive discussions and case presentations on EAR NOSE THROAT, Panel Discussion and Recent Advances in ENT with under Graduates presenting real- world cases. The sessions were interactive, with the esteemed faculty assessing and mentoring the students with clinical pearls and exam oriented strategies. Eminent faculty from AIIMS, Madurai, Prof. B.K. Venkatesha MS, DNB HOD in ENT AIIMS, Madurai and Associate Professor Dr. M. Suresh MS, DNB, MCh (Head & Neck Surgery) also enlightened the students.
The Programme concluded with the felicitation of faculty, distribution of participation certificates, refreshments, and collection of feedback, which was overwhelmingly positive.
Beyond the classrooms: The Vibrant Workings of the ENT Department
The Department of ENT at Government Ramanathapuram Medical College is not only known for its academic rigor but also for its unwavering commitment to patient care and community outreach. The department boasts a busy and bustling OPD. Catering to hundreds of patients each day with a wide spectrum of ENT concerns, from routine ailments to complex head and neck pathologies.
With a dynamic teaching faculty, a patient – centric approach, and strong community engagement, the department of ENT continues to set benchmarks in clinical education, research, and public health.
Laptop distributed to 85 MBBS students and 86 Paramedical students by our Hon'ble PWD minister sir .The program was also graced by our District Collector sir, Deputy Speaker sir,MP sir
Govt. Thiruvannamalai -Phase 1 MBBS students, have won the First prize - Cash prize of Rs.5000 - in the Intercollegiate Model Making Competition held as Part of JARA-Neurobiology of Aging- International Hybrid Conference- organised by the Departments of Physiology and Neurology at Velammal Medical College, Madurai. The team consisting of 4 Phase 1 MBBS students from Physiology department, created an interesting working model of the heart using cost- effective materials and creatively used digital and electrical tools to demonstrate Normal and Abnormal Heart Sounds and Cardiac Murmurs that can be auscultated over the realistic beating heart model and also demonstrated cardiac output and venous return to the heart in the same model. 8 students participated in UG symposium competitions and one student participated in concept paper competition. All the presentations in different events were well appreciated by the conference committee and audience.
